Stromer CEO departure a sign of a new course?
OBERWANGEN, Switzerland – Shortly before Eurobike and the eagerly awaited launch of the ST7 model, speed-pedelec specialist myStromer AG has surprised the market with the announcement of a change in leadership and even a new management structure. After CEO Jakob Luksch successfully restructured the brand over the past four years, his departure nevertheless raises questions.

Just at the beginning of April, myStromer announced the acquisition of Spanish design brand Desiknio, which with its lightweight 25-km/h models seems a plausible addition. Only two months later, myStromer AG is now announcing a reorganisation and introducing a co-management and a management board. This includes the current head of sales, Tomi Viiala, and the current CFO, Karl Ludwig Kley, as well as a management board consisting of the executive board, Desiknio CEO Joaquin Cortes and the company’s division heads.
The new management structure is expected to enable “a better distribution of responsibilities in the organisation, to accelerate decisions and to increase the participation of all Stromer employees.”
Growth strategy
In the last four and a half years, the departing CEO Jakob Luksch has achieved a turnaround with myStromer and made it profitable. According to a company statement, the decisive factors for success were the focus on 45 km/h, the relocation of assembly from Taiwan to Switzerland and the expansion of the European market. However no reasons were given for his resignation. On inquiry myStromer only announces, “that we decided in the context of the growth strategy by common agreement to reorganise the management.”
He was too much process-driven and not customer-orientated enough
The question remains open to what extent this decision was taken by mutual consent. According to a company insider, Jakob Luksch has significantly improved the production processes thanks to his know-how from the German automotive industry. But it can also be heard that he was too much process-driven and not customer-orientated enough.
Investment company
Though it anyway was clear that in the case of a takeover, as happened a year ago with the investment company Naxicap, the position of CEO would be open for discussion sooner or later. Between the lines it can be read that the new French majority owners are aiming for more innovation and growth in the near future and want to develop the portfolio. In any case, Stromer plans to continue investing thanks to the strong support of its owner Naxicap.
